Polychrome Painted Transfer Decorated Earthenware Pitcher Commemorating The Landing of Lafayette at Castle Garden, New York City, August 16, 1824, American Manufacturing Pottery Company, Jersey City, New Jersey, c. 1843, hexagonal paneled pitcher with polychrome painted eagle and American shield on both sides of the collar above a scene depicting the renowned arrival of the Major General Marquis de Lafayette of the Revolutionary War at Castle Garden in Battery Park, New York City, two American flags and a laurel wreath are depicted under the spout, the pitcher outlined with gilt striping, all on a buff colored ground, ht. 8 7/8 in.
