Theophilus Brouwer Pottery (Middle Lane Pottery) Vase Montauk Highway, Westhampton, New York, early 20th century Fire painted body in muted reddish-browns on cream and blue body, gilt neck rim, whale bone mark on base, imperfections, ht. 3 1/4 in. Brouwer's Kiln and Studio was built in the form of a castle turret not far from his home. In the early part of the 20th century Brouwer was considered one of the top three American potters. His flame painting techniques were modeled after ancient Indian and Chinese methods. References indicate that his works were retailed by Tiffany.
