Plains Painted Buffalo Hide Shield and Cover, Dakota (? ), c. first half 19th century, the shield of thick hide, painted on one side with three-color concentric circle pattern, remnant braided hide carrying strap, multiple perforations for attachments, remnant hide ties at the edge, the cover with typical drawstring edge and painted on one side with smaller "bull's eye" pattern (much faded), attributed to Sioux Crazy Bull, dark patina of use, (damage), dia. 21 1/2 in.
