Ivorytype and Crayon Portraits, a colored photograph of a lady; a pamphlet by A.N. Rintoul, A Guide of Painting Photographic Portraits ; a poster advertising crayon portraits by G.C. Poor, Brownfield, Maine ; and a sixth-plate colored ivorytype of an actor in costume, in silk-lined velvet case. Note: The ivorytype process was patented by London photographer J.E. Mayall in 1855. A photographic image is printed on imitation ivory and colored to resemble a painting on ivory. It was introduced to America in circa 1864. The portrait in this lot resembles contemporary photographs of the actor John Wilkes Booth.
