Leica IIIC Heer Camera with Provenance, No. 374285, chrome, the top plate engraved Heer , with a red shutter-blind and a Ernst Leitz Summitar f/2 5cm. lens no. 585042, in maker's ever ready case with German eagle WaA217 stamp and early owner's name James J. Carr , (splits to vulcanite on front, light scuffing on top and base plates, small ding above slow speeds dial, light brassing on slow speeds dial). Note: Included with the camera are a United States customs form, granted August 15 1946 to James Carr, for the entry of Leica No. 37482 and Summitar No. 585042 into New York. Also included is a typed slip granting permission to James Carr of CIC - 1st Army to carry his camera (serial and lens numbers as above) and case into the SCPC (Signal Corps Photographic Centre, Astoria, New York) buildings while on duty. Literature: James Lager, Wehrmacht Leica , p. 37 for an illustration of Leica IIIc No. 374285, which was shipped to Berlin on 24 May 1941 on shipment 25482. The serial number is three digits removed from the one formerly belonging to James Carr, and it seems likely that his camera was also part of the same shipment to Berlin, and that this shipment was associated with military designated "Heer" cameras.
