Early English Wooden Doll with Provenance, late 18th century, black glass pupil-less eyes, dots around eyes, stroked eyebrows, gessoed and painted head and shoulders, magenta/pink cheek coloring (paint loss through face and chin area, some paint chips retained with doll), no wig, wooden torso, white-painted lower torso and upper legs, jointed at hips and knees, lower legs with gesso and paint, blue flat shoes (pieces of painted finish missing), cloth upper arms, red kid lower arms (replaced), white cotton dimity drawers and petticoat, white cotton bodice and wool challis chemise (underclothes yellowed and foxed), brown and red floral sprig-printed dress with lace trim, ht. 16 1/2 in. Provenance: From the New England home of the original family who emigrated to America from England in the mid to late 1800s; a detailed family provenance is provided with the doll.
