Master Raymond, a Ventriloquist's Dummy with Provenance, with carved wood head, articulated mouth, green glass eyes, blonde mohair wig, wood torso and cloth limbs, dressed in period white sailor suit with matching hat, kid gloves and leather boots, ht. 58 in., (replacement nose). Provenance: This doll was one half of a professional act performed by Mr. Raymond Harter and known as "Master Raymond, The World's Best Ventriloquist". Ventriloquist and Dummy toured New York's Broadway theatres together during the early 1930s. Included with the Lot are two early publicity photographs, three newspaper clippings, a contract with theatrical agent Jack Linder for a twelve minute ventriloquist act (for $3) in 1932, and three letters of recommendation, including one from Linder: "Dear Harry, This will introduce you to Mr. Raymond, a very clever act and a regular fellow. Please play him in your houses and you will find him to be an exceptional novelty."
