China Shoulder Head Doll with Fancy Hairstyle and Pierced Ears, Germany, c. 1870, blue painted eyes, white highlights, red line above, small delicate mouth in soft coral tone, rosy cheeks (tiny pin dot spot on cheek, smaller cinder on forehead), long neck, center-part hair with puffs of curls at temples, brushstrokes at sides, hair pulled behind exposed ears to rolling fall to nape of neck (light wear spots back of head), pierced ears in protruding earlobes, cloth body, fine old aqua silk faille dress with smocked detail down front of skirt, ecru piped trim on top, lace at collar and cuffs, brown leather slippers, ht. 21 in.
