Early Papier Mache Shoulder Head Doll in Display Case with Provenance, Germany, c. 1840s, doll with painted features, long molded black curls to shoulder in front, bun in back, (some crazing, wear and rubbing visible, doll appears to be on classic milliner's model-type body, but has not been removed from sealed glass case), doll ht. approx 9 in., has pinned papers "Mattie" Doll 140 years old of the late Salva Crane Newton of Vernon VT, Great grandmother of Mrs. L. Guy Lacher of Brattleboro Vermont" and an erroneous pencil addition "140 to year 1927" , more accurate for the 1979 UFDC First prize ribbon it retains, in glass-front case, overall 13 x 16 x 4 in.
