Unique Schoenhut Boxer Portrait Doll, America, early 20th century, probably representing Jack Dempsey, who won the heavyweight title in 1919, it is likely a one-of-a-kind special commission, the doll with deeply sculpted black curly hair, brown painted eyes, black eyebrows, retrousse nose, turned-down slightly askew mouth, five o'clock shadow and suggestion of chest hair on torso, on "toddler" body with shorter, chunkier proportions, incised Schoenhut marks on back, painted black lace-up boots (gesso and paint on toes of left foot chipped away), wearing white trunks with gold belt, brown leather boxing gloves, ht. 14 in.
