Early American Brass Theodolite, the 6-inch annular dial with silvered scale, engraved divisions 0-90 in individual degrees through four quadrants, and cross-strut with N and S directionals engraved in script on either side of mounting holes for the trough compass, rotating on straight brass limb with shaped hub and folding sights, ht. 6 1/2 x lg. 12 in., in fitted wood case with original red finish and hooks, containing ball-and-socket staff-adaptor, trough compass with paper directionals and brass cover with engraved central rose motif, and brass-hubbed steel needle in its original hollowed-out mahogany keeper.
