Randolphe, Cincinnati, Ohio, with 4 3/4-inch anodized dial, fleur-de-lis at North, needle ring divided 0-90-0 ° twice, plate with two verniers and vial, and 10-inch lg. telescope, ht. 11 in., (lacking tangent screw and other parts, mellow polished brass), with mahogany tripod. Note: According to Smart, Theodore F. Randolphe was born in Ohio in 1829 and died in 1898. Randolphe's business was listed for the first time in the 1853 Cincinnati Directory as mathematical instrument makers. His theodolite transit was awarded a prize in 1858, and again in 1860.
