Painted-Wood Model of a Hook and Ladder Fire Truck, probably early 20th century, red paint with black highlights, spoked cast-iron wheels, seven ladders, traces, and shaft, two metal axes, and two helmets, lg. 38 1/2 in. Literature: Charles V. Hansen, (1990), The History of American Firefighting Toys , p. 37 for a similar piece. These large-scale, detailed models were often made by firefighters in the firehouse while waiting on shift.
