Large Early Golden Mohair Teddy Bear, "Uncle George", possibly Muller or c. 1905 Ideal , with long and distinctively-pointed shaved muzzle, black boot button eyes, stitched brown nose, mouth and claws, firm excelsior-stuffed body with swivel joints, back hump, spoon-shaped hands, chunky legs, and tan felt pads, ht. approx. 23 in., (professionally repair to moth damage on pads). Provenance: A one-family bear, by descent from the seller's uncle, George Schulz, whose parents migrated to America, from Germany, in the first years of the 20th century. The bear was a present to George from his parents c. 1912 - 15, although he only acquired his name later in life, bestowed by the family, after he became the focus of their uncle's living room during the 1950s.
