English Lacquered Brass Culpeper-Type Microscope by Smith, with rack-and-pinion focusing, circular stage signed Smith, Royal Exchange , sprung slide-holder, threaded eyepiece, and reflector on compass joint, the tube and stage supported by two sets of spreading scrollwork feet on mahogany base with ogee molding and fitted baize-lined draw containing five numbered brass-bound objectives, fishplate, talc box and other accessories, ht. 14 1/2 in. retracted, (lacking focusing wheel, forceps and some other minor accessories from drawer), in mahogany pyramid case, ht. 16 in., (case missing top molding and handle).
