Early Brass Surveyor's Compass, probably England, 18th century, with silvered 4 1/2-inch dial, eight-point rose with alternating hatched, plain and foliate-engraved decoration emanating from stylized central rosette, fleur-de-lis at North, inner degree scale divided 0-90 in four quadrants, needle ring divided 0-360° , blued-steel needle with winged brass hub and silvered lifter operated by threaded wing-nut on underside, compass box extending as lip from bezel, and straight limb with shaped screw-on sights, lg. 11 1/2, ht. 7 1/2 in.
