Silk Needlework Picture of Mt. Vernon, Attributed to Mary Stuart, (b. c. 1790), of the Folwell School, Philadelphia, c. 1803, worked in silk threads with watercolor background on a silk ground, 23 1/2 x 26 1/2 (sight), in an eglomise mat with oval aperture, housed in a period molded gilt gesso wood frame. Provenance: This needlework was wrought by Mary Stuart (later Mary Stuart Barr) as a gift for her favorite aunt, Ann Anthony Stuart Auchincloss of Philadelphia. The piece descended in the Auchincloss, Child, Mulgrew and Goldsmith family.
