Chippendale Mahogany Carved Block-front Desk Bookcase, Boston or Charlestown, c. 1770-80, the top section with dentil-carved broken pediment, centering an urn and flame finial, above the hinged scallop-paneled doors flanked by reeded pilasters opening to three adjustable shelves over three drawer openings, with candle slides below, the lower section interior with seven carved shells, valanced drawers, and prospect door concealing secret compartments, on conforming ogee bracket base, brasses appear to be original, old refinish with rich patina, (minor restoration), ht. 93, wd. 42, dp. 22 1/2 in.
