Two Hayes Administration White House China Plates, designed by Theodore R Davis, made by Haviland & Co. , Limoges, France, c. 1880, one plate painted with a stag in a naturalistic scene, the other with a bear in a tree eating honey from a beehive, the underside of the rim with an American eagle and shield, maker's marks on base including two Haviland & Co. marks, designer's name, and patent date "Aug. 10 1880," (two very tiny unobtrusive glaze fleck (pepper flake size) losses on bear plate), dia. 10 1/8 in.
