Pieced Cotton "Variable Star" Quilt, America, late 19th century, the quilt with thirty-six pieced printed calico and solid color blocks forming eight-point stars within, set on point and alternating with printed purple calico squares of equal size set diagonally, with rust printed calico border, backed with brown, rust, and white floral printed woven twill cotton fabric brought over the edge forming the binding, quilted with parallel line and chevron designs with a rope pattern stitched on the borders, 83 1/2 x 81 1/2 in.
