Small Needlework Sampler, "Lydia Gray Her Sampler Made In The 12 Year of Her Age 1774," silk threads on a linen ground, (toning, fading), 7 5/8 x 5 3/4 in. , in a mahogany veneer frame. Note: According to a typewritten genealogy of Lydia Gray affixed to the reverse, and another genealogy record, Lydia was born March 15, 1763 to Colonel Pardon Gray and Mary (Brown), who resided in the Tiverton, Rhode Island area. Colonel Gray was a devoted patriot in the Revolutionary War. Lydia married Sanford Almy September 27, 1781, and together they had fourteen children. Lydia died May 6, 1835.
