Manuel Barrón y Carrillo (Spanish, 1814-1884) Sevilla Signed and dated "Manuel Barron 1846" and titled l. l. Oil on canvas, 30 1/4 x 42 in. (76.8 x 106.7), framed. Condition: Minor retouch, punctures, abrasions, craquelure, surface grime. N.B. This work is representative of Barron's style; he is best known for creating theatrical landscapes, most often of his native Seville. He attended the Academy of Beaux-Arts from 1828 to 1831, where he would later teach. Along with José Domínguez Bécquer, he is considered one of the founders of 19th-century Andalusian painting.
