Thomas Sully (American, 1783-1872) Portrait of Henry McIlvaine Monogrammed and dated "TS 1836" l. l., inscribed on the reverse, a partial period label from Mrs. Montgomery Hare, New York, discusses the McIlvaine family. Oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in. (76.2 x 63.5 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, varnish inconsistencies, surface grime. N.B. Biddle and Fielding references a bust length portrait of Henry McIlvaine, begun on April 22nd 1836 and completed on May 5th, 1836.
