Condition: Retouch. N.B. The Tatars were a tribe of Turkic people of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The name 'Tatars' was first given to Mongolian and Turkic tribes around the 6th-9th centuries. They migrated out of Siberia and were involved in the Mongol invasion into Russia in the 13th century. The Tatars eventually lost their tribal structure and have settled in what is now central and southern Russia. The 19th century marked a revival in Tatar nationalism. Although primarily Muslim, there are also many Tatars who follow Christianity or Buddhism.
