Northwest Coast Polychrome Carved Wood Mask, Kwakiutl, c. last half 19th century, the large hollow-backed cedar form with stylized human face wearing a shark (?) face headdress, with large unpierced eyes, pierced mouth overlaid with pounded copper lips, the prominent nose with possible bird beak overlay, remnant white, black, blue, and red pigments, patina of use, (cracks, old repairs), ht. 25, wd. 20 1/2 in. Provenance: Collected from an elementary school in Connecticut in the early 1940s.
