Cut Corner Rose Medallion Porcelain Bowl, China, 19th century, enameled Rose Medallion pattern bowl, the center with the conjoined gilt monogram "FHB" for Fanny Hazard Bond in a round reserve surrounded by four butterflies, ht. 4 5/8, dia. 10 in. Provenance: The bowl purportedly once belonged to Fanny Hazard Bond, a descendant of Colonel Augustus George Hazard. He was born in Kingston, Rhode Island on April 28, 1802 and later became a prosperous joint-owner of the Hazard Powder Company in Connecticut. Fanny married Ephraim Bond who was a graduate of Harvard Law School and practiced in Springfield, Massachusetts. He later became vice-president and president of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., from 1867-86, president of the Springfield Five Cents Savings Bank, and a member of the Massachusetts Legislature in 1852, and was instrumental in obtaining the city charter for Springfield, Massachusetts, and was an incorporator of the city library.
