Carved and Polychrome Painted Wooden Miner Figure, found in eastern Pennsylvania, late 19th century, the standing figure holding mining pick in one hand and a staff in the other, mounted on a wooden plinth, clothed in a ceremonial costume with a plumed hat with embossed brass trim, a black jacket with fringed epaulets, yellow trousers, and black and white boots with black buttons, a sword hangs by his side; the staff, sword, and belt ornamented with gilt minor's symbols of the pick and sledge hammer, ht. 26 5/8 in.
