Seven Items Relating to Hon. James Winthrop (1752-1805), late 18th/early 19th century, including a portrait, a silver porringer, and four pieces of Chinese export porcelain. The bust-length portrait of James Winthrop was executed in watercolor and gouache on paper, in an oval eglomise mat and original molded gilt gesso frame, sight size 5 3/4 x 4 5/8, under the paper backing are two papers with related inscriptions, one inscribed: "Thereby give and deliver the within Portrait of my late brother, the Hon. James Winthrop, Esq. deceased, to Miss Nabby Allen, in the presence of Abraham Hilliard, Esq. Cambridge, Oct, 25th, A.D. 1823. (signed) Wm. Winthrop" and "The Hon. James Winthrop, Esq. was born, April 8th A.D. 1752, & died, Sept. 26th, A.D. 1821 in the 70th year of his age.", the other paper is inscribed: "James Winthrop born 8 April 1752/Drawn by N. -awi-- March 1805./Wm. Winthrop Apr. 19, 1753./Drawn March 1805." The silver porringer was executed by William Swan, Boston, late 18th century, with pierced keyhole handle, engraved with the initials 'T-F*H,' and inscribed "WW to NA" beneath exterior rim, which corresponds to William Winthrop to Nabby Draper; the verso of handle with maker's mark and an inscription "FWD to SWD," which corresponds to a later presentation of the porringer in the Draper family, porringer ht. 2 1/8, bowl dia. 5 1/2, approx. 9 troy oz.
