Adams, maker, New York, c. 1831-42 small baluster-form cup with die-rolled guilloche and dot rim band, raised on a circular stepped pedestal with foot ring of vertical spear-like leaves alternating with a single bud on a stalk, one side with engraved inscription "Awarded by the American Institute at the Spading Match at Fordham Westchester, Co. NY /Matthew Rochet/For the best Spading 10 Feet by 20. Time 23 Minutes;" maker's mark under base, (minor dents), ht. 4 5/8 in., approx. 1 troy oz.
