Federal Cherry Inlaid Desk Bookcase, probably Kentucky, c. 1790-1810, the top section with molded swan's neck cresting centering a carved acorn and urn finial above the hinged arched doors, each divided into panels by inlaid stringing centering ovals containing inlaid eagles clutching the liberty cap, opening to adjustable shelves, set on a projecting lower section with molded edge, above a drawer with faux double facade opening to an interior of two central drawers flanked by document drawers, two drawers and three compartments inlaid with stringing and bellflowers, and three graduated drawers below, all with scratchbeading and stringing forming diamonds and ovals, and flanked by inlaid meandering vines topped by flowers and terminating with urns, on base with checkered banding and bracket feet, refinished, replaced pulls, (restoration), ht. 95 1/2, wd. 44 1/2, dp. 20 1/2 in. Note: The underside of an interior drawer inscribed "George Carlyle, born May 31st 1756". George Carlyle was a Revolutionary War soldier who moved to Woodford County, Kentucky in 1779.
