Pair of African Carved Wood Rhythm Pounders, Senufo, the male and female forms emerging from natural wood blocks, with extremely long and stylized arms and torsos, the hands opened and at the abdomen, the heads with heart-shaped faces and central crest coiffures, the flat back with elaborate scarification patterns, with differing marks on the face and torsos, (cracks), ht. 54 in. Provenance: Purchased in the early 1950s by Lee Ault, owner of Art in America magazine, from a French dealer, and descended in the family.
