Attributed to Rufus Porter (American, 1792-1884) Colonial Landscape Painted Fireboard Unsigned. Tempera on three panels, depicting a scene with a bow hunter in the foreground with trees and foliage overlooking a scene with a sailing vessel in a body of water with distant village and hills, (paint losses, portion of center panel replaced), 35 x 48 in. Literature: This fireboard is illustrated in American Country: FOLK ART. Created by Rebus, Inc., published by Time-Life Books, 1990, p. 148. a 10 x 10 piece of panel has been replaced in the center panel, well painted to blend with the surrounding panels.
