Painted Sheet Copper and Iron Angel Gabriel Weather Vane, America, 19th century, cut-out sheet copper silhouette angel figure with sheet iron reinforcements applied to one side, the head fitted with a faceted glass eye, the surface with vestiges of black paint and verdigris, no stand, ht. 9 5/8, lg. 28 1/4 in. Literature: This weather vane is illustrated in American Folk Sculpture by Robert Bishop, E.P. Dutton & Co., New York, 1974, on p. 61. Overall good and sturdy condition, with no breaks, weak points or repairs. The vane has vestiges of black paint and verdigris. Some of the exposed surfaces have rust.
