American School, 19th Century "Ice Cutting on the Kennebec River at Dresden Maine. " Unsigned, title inscribed in pencil on cardboard backing. Oil on canvas, c. 1860, depicting several figures in the process of cutting, storing, and delivery of large blocks of ice, 14 x 22 in., in a period grain painted frame. Condition: Relined, scattered retouch. Provenance: Ex Bob Bishop collection, New York City. Exhibited: The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, By and for the People: American Folk Art From a Private Collection, October 3rd -November 14th 1976, retaining exhibition label. retouch to back of largest figure on the left, center figure and small areas of snow and background.
