Two Small Oval Wallpaper-covered Bandboxes, America, second quarter, 19th century, the first with red and white linear decoration on a blue ground, the second with red white and blue foliate designs on the cover with a green rim band, the box with dark red leaf designs on a blue ground, ht. 1 1/2, 1 3/4, dia. 3, 5 1/4 in. Provenance: The first box was formerly in the Roger Bacon collection and retains a partial auction lot sticker. Exhibited: The second box exhibeted at The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, By and for the People: American Folk Art From a Private Collection, October 3rd -November 14th 1976, retaining exhibition label.
