Small Needlework Sampler, America, c. 1815, square sampler with silk threads on a linen ground with initials "CT" and "DT" in the u.r. corner, the letter "H" at lower right and dated "1815" in the l.l. corner, the field stitched with an urn of flowers, a strawberry plant issuing from a basket, a bowl of fruit, and a bird, (fading, toning, stains), 7 3/4 x 7 5/8 in., in a molded period curly maple frame. Provenance: Ex collection of Robert Roche. light stains around edges, center flower blossom brown and sort of streaked.
