Two Hannah Davis Wallpaper Covered Bandboxes, Jaffrey, New Hampshire, nailed oval wooden boxes , one c. 1836 with pink, white, and green flowers within entwined white leafy vine borders against a gray ground, the other c. 1844, with pink, white, and green flower blossoms on a blue ground, both with Hannah Davis paper labels affixed to the underside of the covers, (scattered losses), ht. 6, 9, dia. 10 1/2, 12 in. Exhibited: The first box exhibited at Minneapolis Institute of Arts, By and for the People: American Folk Art From a Private Collection, October 3rd -November 14th 1976, retaining exhibition label. Literature: The second bandbox is illustrated in American Country: FOLK ART. Created by Rebus, Inc., published by Time-Life Books, 1990 Some areas of separation around cover rim and base, wear, fading, tops soiled, scattered edge losses.
