Classical Mahogany Carved Sofa, Attributed to Samuel Field McIntire, Salem Massachusetts, c. 1820, the crest of flanking spiral and acanthus-carved scrolls ending in floral rosettes with grapevines below on a star-punched background, centering a basket of fruit and a floral device, above an upholstered back and seat with scrolled spiral-carved sides ending in floral rosettes, joined by a conformingly carved seat rail on legs of beaded rectangular panels and scrolls on casters, refinished, (minor imperfections), ht. 38, wd. 80, dp. 24 in. Literature: A similar example is illustrated in American Antiques from the Israel Sack Collection (New York, New York, 1974), vol.4, plate 3778, p. 995. slight losses to pieces of molding at the extreme ends of the crest, casters frozen.
