Chippendale Red-Painted Slant-lid Desk, northern New England, late 18th century, the lid opens to a stepped interior, with valanced compartments and shaped and carved drawers above a case of four thumbmolded graduated drawers on bracket feet, replaced brasses, old surface, (repairs and imperfections), ht. 45, wd. 40, dp. 20 1/2 in. Note: the center interior drawer is inscribed in paint "A.B. Crabtree, Hancock, Maine, September 5, 1903." paint wear interior, mouse damage to one compartment, cracks in lid. patch to right front foot, damage to thumbmoldings
