Attributed to James Sanford Ellsworth (American, 1802/03- 1874) Portrait of a Girl Holding a White Rose. Unsigned. Watercolor on paper, c. 1840-45, depicting the girl in profile seated on a fanciful green upholstered chair with grain-painted frame, her head and chair surrounded by shaded gray cloud-like formations, sight size 3 3/8 x 2 1/2 in., in a mahogany veneer frame. Condition: Laid down onto paper. the sides of the paper were cut down at some point in time and the cloud-like formation is extended onto the paper the watercolor was applied to.
