American School, 19th Century Pair of Portraits of a Lady and a Gentleman. Unsigned. Oil on panel, c. 1820, the lady shown seated wearing a blue Empire waisted dress with a ruffled lace collar a beaded pearl necklace and holding a cluster of cherries, the gentleman wears a dark blue double breasted jacket with brass buttons, a white stock and white shirt with frill 28 x 22 1/2 in., in later molded wood frames. Condition: Minor repair to board of lady's portrait, minor retouch. lady- the panel is crack just left of her face, a few small spots of retouch to the background, a few small scattered paint abrasions. gentleman- a few spots of retouch to background left of his head, couple larger areas at lower rt. and lft. of his jacket, and scattered background spots.
