Chippendale Mahogany Slant-front Desk, John Townsend, Newport, Rhode Island, c. 1780, the lid opens to an interior of a shell-carved and concave prospect door opening to three drawers, flanked by concave valanced drawers, three compartments, convex drawers, shell-carved drawers and two convex drawers, on case with four thumbmolded graduated drawers on ogee bracket feet, brass bail pulls, refinished, (replaced feet), the label of the cabinet maker affixed to top drawer, ht. 41, wd. 40, dp. 22 3/4 in. replaced feet, patched dents to edge at lower right.
