James Abbott McNeill Whistler (American, 1834-1903) Billingsgate, 1859, sixth state or later (Kennedy, 47). Signed and dated in the plate, identified on a label on the reverse. Etching on laid paper with partial watermark of a crest or coat-of-arms, plate size 6 x 8 3/4 in. (14.9 x 22.3 cm), framed. Condition: Margins approximately 1 inch with deckled upper edge, image gently light-struck, unobtrusive cockling to sheet, tape/residue and sticker to reverse in upper margin.
