Silver Porringer, Jonathan Clarke, Newport, (1734-55) and Providence, (after 1755) Rhode Island, circular bulbous bowl with slightly angled rim, domed bottom, cast handle pierced in a keyhole pattern with eleven voids, stamped "J:CLARKE" on back of handle and engraved "S*P/M*H" on front of handle, (small handle break), ht. 1 7/8, bowl dia. 5 1/2, wd. 8 1/8 in., approx. 8 troy oz. Note: According to a note accompanying the bowl, the porringer was from the Rogers family, "'S' on handle possibly Smith from Portsmouth" and "Pratt definitely Portsmouth, R.I." There are 2 repaired splits on the handle near where it attaches to the bowl, minor light wear.
