John Edwards, Ashby Massachusetts Tall Clock, in a pine case with pierced fret top, three finial plinths and brass finials, arched glazed door over the painted wooden dial with floral decorated arch and "astronomical" dial layout of seconds, minutes and hours, two stage base molding and low bracket feet all housing a thirty-hour wooden, time and strike movement powered by soapstone weights, (replacement fret, center plinth, finials and base), ht. 86 in. Literature: Zea and Cheney, Clock Making in New England, 1725-1825 pp. 114-115 and pl. 24, p. 91 for another example by this maker with similar dial.
