Mahogany Cased "Coffin" Wall Clock, attributed to Simon Willard, Roxbury, circa 1800, the full length door with glass over the 5 3/4 in. diameter engraved silvered brass dial with Roman hour numerals, closed minute track, Arabic minute numerals, two subsidiary dials, one engraved Strike-Silent and the other a "seconds" dial and blued steel hands, eight day weight driven, step train movement with side mounted pendulum and dead-beat escapement, (crest now gone; imperfections), ht. 26 1/2 in. A related movement is found in a Simon Willard wall clock, Zea and Cheney, Clock Making in New England, 1725-1825 , page 30; Provenance: By descent in the Dudley family of Roxbury.
