Portrait Miniature of a Young Woman, attributed to Thomas Seir Cummings, (American 1804-1894), circa 1830, artist and year identified in engraved inscription on the reverse "A Lady of 1830 New York By Thomas Seir Cummings 1804-1894," watercolor on ivory depicting a half-length oval portrait of the woman facing right wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress, with clouds and blue sky background, 3 x 2 3/8 in. , in gilt brass pendant frame. Condition: Very good. Note: Thomas Seir Cummings became a student of Henry Inman in 1821 and after three years took him into partnership. Cummings later became the most successful and prolific miniaturist in the second quarter of the 19th century.
