Group of Four Family Portrait Miniatures, attributed to Sarah Goodridge (Massachusetts, 1788-1853), unsigned. Watercolor on ivory, circa 1835, 3 x 2 3/8 in., depicting two gentlemen, a lady, and a baby, all mounted in black lacquered papier-mache frames with brass liners and hangers. Condition: Small paint loss l.r. on the portrait of the lady. Note: Sarah Goodridge was born in Templeton, Massachusetts. In 1820 she moved to Boston to live with her sister and brother-in-law and opened a studio there, where she met and studied under Gilbert Stuart. She painted portraits of Stuart, Daniel Webster, General Henry Lee, and many other prominent figures of the day. She was a prolific painter, completeing about two miniatures a week until her eyesight failed in 1850.
