Watercolor on ivory, heightened with gum arabic, depicting a black woman wearing a red dress and white kerchief, standing, and handing a baby to a ginger-haired woman wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress with a white lace neckline, her hair in a braid coiled on the top of her head, the blond-haired baby wearing a blue dress trimmed in white lace, 3 3/8 x 2 5/8 in., mounted in a period mahogany frame with gilt brass liner.
