Silk Needlework Picture, America, first quarter 19th century, worked with silk threads and watercolor painted faces and background on a silk ground, depicting a mother seated on a chair reading to her child, with a young lady playing a harp in a landscape with trees and a waterfall overlooking a mountain lake, (tears, creases), sight size 18 1/4 x 20 in. , in a period molded giltwood frame. Note: A photocopy of a 1974 auction listing at Sotheby's Parke Bernet from the sale of the Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch Collection affixed to the back of the frame shows a similar work done by a Massachusetts girl dated 1818.
